The Challenge

New-build flats and commercial unit in Canary Wharf London required 29kwp of solar pv installed on a flat roof to meet the code for sustainable buildings.

It was not permissable to penetrate the roof in any way, and there were also weight restrictions due to the type of roof installed. The height of the building was 22m which meant that wind loads were a major consideration.

The Solution

A feasibility survey was conducted and Rexel recommended 116 x 250wp modules to be mounted on a special mounting system. A full wind load analysis was carried out and full ballast weight loads were given to meet the required wind loads.

The mounting system used, ensured that the potential problem of fitting the required number of panels in the available space was overcome.
